South Africa launches ETA: Indians can now get digital travel approval in 24-48 hours

Travelling to South Africa has become significantly easier for Indian passport holders. South Africa has rolled out its Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system, allowing eligible Indian travellers to obtain digital travel approval entirely online—often within 24 to 48 hours—eliminating the need to visit a visa application centre.

The new ETA is aimed at boosting tourism and business travel by replacing the traditional sticker visa process with a faster, paperless application system. Eligible travellers can apply from anywhere by submitting their passport details, uploading the required documents, completing identity verification and making the payment online.

What is South Africa’s ETA?

The Electronic Travel Authorisation is a digital travel permit linked to a traveller’s passport. It is valid for short-term visits of up to 90 days for tourism and certain business or visitor purposes. The ETA also supports multiple entries during its validity but cannot be used for employment or long-term stays.
