According to Pentagon data, 247 of the wounded were Army soldiers, 63 Navy sailors, 19 Marines and 36 Air Force airmen. It remains unclear whether the figures include personnel involved in the downing of two combat aircraft reported on Friday.

The majority of those injured — around 200 — were mid- to senior-level enlisted troops, while 85 were officers and 80 were junior enlisted personnel.

The overall death toll stands at 13 US service members killed in combat. Separately, six personnel died when a US military refuelling aircraft crashed over Iraq, while seven others were killed in action during operations against Iran.

Meanwhile, 12 US troops were wounded — including two seriously — in an Iranian strike on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, according to Reuters.
