EU’s Costa told Jordan’s King Abdullah that Hormuz Strait must be re-opened

Antonio Costa urged the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz during a phone call with King Abdullah II, stressing that it remains a top priority amid escalating regional tensions.

In a post on X on Monday, Costa said the European Union stands by its partners during these challenging times and continues to support ongoing diplomatic efforts. He also expressed serious concern over the situation in Lebanon.

Meanwhile, a fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran appeared to be at risk after Washington announced it had seized an Iranian cargo ship attempting to breach its blockade. Tehran has vowed retaliation and is, for now, refusing to participate in fresh peace talks.

The US continues to enforce a blockade on Iranian ports, while Iran has repeatedly imposed restrictions on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz—a vital global energy corridor that typically carries around one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas supply.
