With folded hands, she kept saying “No”’: Jaipur girl’s parents recount final moments before fatal school fall
Nearly eight months after a nine-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide at a private school in Jaipur, her parents have released CCTV footage from her classroom, claiming it shows prolonged bullying by classmates and repeated inaction by the class teacher despite the child seeking help multiple times.
The Class 4 student allegedly jumped from the fourth floor of the school building on November 1 last year and was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital. The footage has surfaced weeks after Rajasthan Police filed a chargesheet in the case.
According to the girl’s mother, the child endured nearly an hour of bullying by a classmate before approaching the teacher five times with folded hands, pleading for help.
“My daughter kept asking the boy to look at the board. After 55 minutes of bullying, she went to the teacher five times, trying to explain what had happened. It takes immense courage for a child to do that,” she said, alleging the teacher failed to intervene and instead “participated in the bullying.”
The family said the girl had appeared cheerful the previous evening after celebrating Halloween but displayed visible signs of distress in the classroom, including repeatedly holding her head.
CBSE panel flagged lapses
A two-member CBSE inquiry committee had earlier issued a show-cause notice to the school, finding that the area where the child fell was allegedly cleaned before forensic examination and that the school had ignored repeated complaints of bullying made by her parents over nearly 18 months.
The committee reportedly found that the child approached her teacher five times during the final 45 minutes before the incident over remarks allegedly written by classmates on a digital slate. It concluded that no corrective action was taken, despite the girl appearing visibly distressed, and noted she was not referred to the school counsellor, raising concerns over compliance with CBSE’s anti-bullying guidelines.
Parents’ body seeks independent probe
Separately, parents’ organisation Sanyukt Abhibhavak Sangh has demanded an independent investigation into the school’s teacher appointments, qualifications and regulatory compliance.
The group’s spokesperson, Abhishek Jain Bittu, alleged discrepancies in staffing records submitted before the Rajasthan High Court, claiming that inspection documents showed inconsistencies in teacher strength and that several appointment and qualification records were not produced during CBSE inspections.
