India will look to build on its strong start at the Commonwealth Games 2026 as the athletics programme gets underway in Glasgow on Monday, with several medal events featuring Indian athletes across disciplines.

India opened its gold medal account on Sunday after Mirabai Chanu clinched the women’s 48kg weightlifting title, while Rishikanta Singh added a silver in the men’s 60kg category.

The spotlight on Monday will be on the men’s high jump final, where Tejaswin Shankar, Sarvesh Kushare and J Aadarsh Ram will compete for medals. Tejas Shirse will also begin his campaign in the men’s 110m hurdles, aiming to qualify for the final later in the day.

In weightlifting, India will have three medal hopes with Gyaneshwari Yadav (53kg), Bindyarani Devi (58kg) and V Ajaya Babu (79kg) in action.

Another medal opportunity comes in artistic gymnastics, where Protistha Samanta will compete in the women’s vault final.

India will also be represented in swimming, boxing, lawn bowls, para-athletics and 3×3 wheelchair basketball, making Monday one of the busiest days of the Games for the contingent.
