Tara Sutaria on Toxic co-star Yash: ‘He is one of the most sensitive people’

Yash’s pan-India film Toxic: A FairyTale for GrownUps was among the year’s most anticipated releases. After several delays, the Geetu Mohandas directorial finally hit theatres on August 26. While the film has performed well at the box office, it has received largely negative reactions from audiences.

Amid the mixed response, Tara Sutaria has opened up about her experience of working with Yash, describing the actor as one of the most sensitive and considerate people she has met in the film industry.

Yash plays an angry, toxic and alpha character in Toxic, but Tara said his real-life personality is very different from his on-screen persona.

Asked whether she would describe Yash as a male feminist, Tara said he is extremely sensitive and often thinks about others before himself.

“He is one of the most sensitive and genuinely, he is thinking about the other person more than himself. Bohot kam hota hai hamare industry mein, ye dekhna (It is rare to see such a person in this industry). He is unlike anyone I have met. He is very considerate,” Tara said during an interaction on The Male Feminist podcast.

Tara also spoke about the comparisons frequently made between female actors in the industry. She said every actress brings something different to the screen and questioned why similar comparisons are not made between male stars.

“In our industry every single actress fits a different role. I don’t think you can compare anybody. Everybody is doing different work,” she said, adding that female actors are often compared with one another on social media, while such comparisons are less common among male actors.

Tara’s role in Toxic

Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups features Yash alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria. The film is written by Yash and Geetu Mohandas and directed by Mohandas.

Tara plays Rebecca in the film. Her first look was unveiled on January 3, after which Mohandas shared a note about her feelings towards the actor.

The filmmaker said she had always felt a natural instinct to protect Tara, suggesting that the actor’s reserved personality and the protective shell she carries had contributed to that feeling.
