Delhi-NCR Faces More Rain After Waterlogging, Traffic Mayhem; IMD Issues Yellow Alert

Delhi and neighbouring areas are still reeling from the relentless rain that lashed the region on Friday, with the National Capital Region expected to see another wet day on Saturday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light to moderate rainfall at different times of the day on September 5 and issued a yellow alert for the region.

According to the IMD, thunderstorms with lightning and light to moderate rain are likely during the morning, afternoon and evening.

Delhi-NCR Battles Waterlogging

Delhi-NCR witnessed intense rainfall on Janmashtami, resulting in widespread waterlogging and traffic congestion across several areas and disrupting normal movement.

Several roads in Delhi and Gurugram were flooded, causing major traffic snarls at key locations. Heavy waterlogging near Indira Gandhi International Airport also disrupted flight operations on Friday, with commuters struggling to navigate inundated roads around the terminals.

Independent weather forecaster Navdeep Dahiya has predicted another spell of heavy rain across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad from the afternoon through late evening on September 5. Parts of Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh are also likely to receive heavy rainfall.

Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad Could See Heavier Rain

In a post on X, Dahiya said Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad could receive between 60 mm and 140 mm of rain, while Delhi and Gurugram may record 30 mm to 80 mm by midnight on September 5.

The forecast suggests intermittent rain during the first half of Saturday, followed by the possibility of heavier downpours from the afternoon through late evening. The intense rainfall could trigger fresh waterlogging, particularly during the second half of the day.

Delhi is expected to remain generally cloudy with moderate rain on September 5. Temperatures are likely to range between 25°C and 30°C, while humidity could remain between 70% and 95%.

On September 6, generally cloudy skies are expected with light rain or drizzle. Temperatures may range from 23°C to 32°C, with humidity between 65% and 90%.

From September 7, conditions are expected to become partly cloudy, with temperatures likely to remain between 24°C and 34°C and humidity ranging from 55% to 85%.

Partly cloudy skies are forecast to continue on September 8, with temperatures between 25°C and 34°C and humidity between 50% and 80%.

Similar conditions are expected on September 9, when temperatures may range from 26°C to 34°C and humidity is likely to remain between 50% and 80%.

On September 10, temperatures are expected to stay between 25°C and 34°C, with humidity ranging from 50% to 80% and partly cloudy skies continuing across the capital.
