Sensex extends loss, down 300 pts, Nifty near 23,800

The Nifty50 and the Sensex fell as oil prices advanced, raising concern about the inflation outlook amid simmering tension between the US and Iran.

As of 10:00 AM, the Sensex fell 253.68 points or 0.33 per cent to 76,261.75 and the Nifty50 was down 78.70 points or 0.33 per cent at 23,825.60.

Infosys, Tech Mahindra, and Bajaj Auto were the top losers in the Nifty50 index.

In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap fell 0.15 per cent and the Nifty SmallCap rose 0.24 per cent.

Sector-wise, the Nifty IT fell the most while the Nifty Pharma rose the most.
