Mumbai Coastal Road Crash: 3 Killed, 1 Critical After Speeding BMW Falls From Bridge

Three people were killed and another critically injured after a speeding BMW crashed on Mumbai’s Coastal Road early Sunday morning, police said.

The accident occurred near Lotus Jetty, opposite Lala Lajpatrai College, at around 5:20 am. According to police, the car was travelling from Marine Drive towards Haji Ali when the driver allegedly lost control due to excessive speed.

The BMW reportedly crashed through the bridge and fell from the elevated road.

The injured were taken to Nair Hospital, where three people were declared dead. The deceased have been identified as 21-year-old Shanay Gajjal and 17-year-old Dhirya Seth, while the identity of the third victim was yet to be confirmed.

The BMW was being driven by Sanay Gijjar, while the other three were passengers. Twenty-year-old Onmy Aditya Oswal, who was seated beside the driver, survived the crash and is undergoing treatment.

Four Friends Were Returning From Marine Drive

According to police, the four youths were students of NMIMS College in Juhu and were staying in a paying guest accommodation in Mumbai. All four were from Ahmedabad and had gone to Marine Drive before the accident occurred while they were returning.

Relatives of the victims have reached Mumbai, while their parents are travelling from Gujarat.

Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the alleged speeding.

Mumbai’s Coastal Road is a 10.58-km high-speed corridor connecting Marine Drive in south Mumbai with the Worli end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.
