Ghaziabad Teen Who Recently Won 2 Gold Medals In Rope-Skipping Dies After Falling From 12th Floor

A Class 9 student who recently won two gold medals at the CBSE national-level rope-skipping competition allegedly died after falling from the balcony of her 12th-floor apartment in Ghaziabad’s Raj Nagar Extension late Friday night, police said on Saturday.

The 14-year-old girl was at home with her parents, younger sister and maternal grandparents, who were visiting the family, when the incident occurred, police said.

According to officials, the girl went to the balcony around 9pm to collect clothes that had been put out to dry. She allegedly slipped and fell from the 12th floor. The family alerted the police, and she was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

“It was around 9pm when the girl had gone to the balcony to fetch clothes that were drying. At this moment, she somehow slipped and hit the ground floor within seconds. The police were informed, and the girl was declared dead when taken to a nearby hospital. Earlier this week, she won CBSE nationals in the discipline of rope skipping,” Ziauddin Ahmad, ACP of Nandgram circle, told HT.

Police said the girl was born in July 2012 and was a Class 9 student at a private school in Ghaziabad. Her recent sporting achievement had come at the CBSE national-level rope-skipping competition, where she won two gold medals in the under-19 category.

According to details available on the CBSE website, she secured gold in the Double Dutch Pair Freestyle and another gold in the Double Dutch Single Freestyle events.

The girl’s father works as a software engineer with a multinational company, officials said.

Police said her body was sent for an autopsy, which was scheduled to be conducted on Saturday.

“So far, the family has not indicated any foul play behind the incident, and no complaint has been given to the police,” ACP Ahmad said.
