All India Muslim Jamaat Criticises The Kerala Story 2, Film Faces Legal Challenge

The All India Muslim Jamaat (AIMJ) has criticised the upcoming Hindi film The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond, alleging that it promotes “fake narratives” and harms communal harmony. The film has also become the subject of a legal challenge seeking to halt its release.

AIMJ Voices Objections

AIMJ President Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi strongly objected to the film, accusing filmmakers of fostering social divisions.

Speaking to ANI, Razvi said, “The Kerala Story 2 is based on fake narratives. A trend has emerged among some filmmakers to profit by promoting stories that increase communal tension and damage Hindu–Muslim brotherhood. Such efforts appear designed to defame Muslims.”

Kerala High Court Issues Notice

The controversy has reached the judiciary, with the Kerala High Court issuing notices to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the film’s producers following a petition challenging the censor certificate.

The petition was filed by Sreedev Namboothiri, a resident of Kannur district, who argued that the film contains “malicious and stereotypical projections” about Kerala.

According to the plea, the trailer suggests that the story involves characters from multiple states and is largely set outside Kerala, yet the title and presentation allegedly portray the state negatively. The petitioner contended that the film risks misrepresenting Kerala and fostering social divisions.

The court has directed the CBFC and the producers, Sunshine Pictures, to submit responses. The next hearing is scheduled for February 24.

Film Details and Political Reactions

Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the film addresses themes of religious conversion and security concerns. Its teaser has generated mixed reactions, with some viewers raising concerns over alleged exaggerations while others defend its portrayal.

The sequel has also drawn criticism from political leaders, including Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.

The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond is scheduled for theatrical release on February 27.
