Alwar assault, Delhi murder: Ex-domestic help’s 12-hour crime spree stuns city

A 23-year-old domestic worker has been arrested for allegedly carrying out two brutal attacks within hours — first assaulting and raping a neighbour in Alwar, and then travelling to Delhi where he is accused of raping and murdering the daughter of his former employer, an IRS officer.

The accused, identified as Rahul Meena, allegedly entered his neighbour’s home in Alwar on Tuesday night around 10:30 pm, assaulted her and committed rape before leaving after issuing threats.

Within hours, he reached Delhi and entered a residential society in Amar Colony in the early morning. Police said he gained access to his former employer’s flat around 6:39 am and left less than an hour later. When the victim’s parents returned home around 8 am, they found their 22-year-old daughter dead in a pool of blood, with signs of a violent assault.

How police tracked the accused

Delhi Police formed multiple teams to trace the suspect. CCTV footage from the housing society helped establish his entry and escape route. Investigators identified an auto-rickshaw he used, traced the driver, and followed the lead to a hotel where Meena was eventually arrested.

Background and motive

Meena had previously worked at the victim’s home for nearly a year before being dismissed over alleged betting habits and financial misconduct. Police said he had taken money from the family for errands but failed to pay shopkeepers, often buying items on credit instead.

Evidence and investigation

CCTV footage reportedly shows the accused entering the residential complex in one set of clothes and leaving in another, suggesting he may have changed attire after the crime. He was also seen carrying a backpack and is believed to have briefly stopped at a nearby park before fleeing.

The victim, an engineering graduate preparing for civil services, was alone at home at the time. Her belongings were found scattered, and preliminary findings indicate she was sexually assaulted before being strangled, possibly with a phone charger cable.

Police have registered a case of rape, murder and robbery. Confirmation of sexual assault is awaited pending medical examination results.
