Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has urged Israel to stop and reverse the establishment of settlements in the occupied West Bank, describing the Palestinian question as a major historical injustice of the century, according to China’s foreign ministry.

Wang made the remarks during a meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog in Azerbaijan, the ministry said in a statement on Friday.

China Calls For Reversal Of West Bank Settlements

During the meeting, Wang told Herzog that Israel should stop and reverse what China described as the “forced establishment” of settlements in the West Bank.

The remarks reflect Beijing’s continued opposition to Israeli settlement expansion in the Palestinian territories. China has consistently called for a resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and expressed support for the Palestinian cause.

Wang Calls Palestinian Issue A Historical Injustice

According to the Chinese foreign ministry, Wang reiterated Beijing’s position that the Palestinian question represents the greatest historical injustice of the century.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the Chinese foreign minister to convey Beijing’s concerns over the situation in the Palestinian territories directly to Israel’s president.

China has repeatedly advocated a political settlement to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with a two-state solution remaining central to its stated position.

The latest remarks come amid continued international attention on Israeli settlement activity in the West Bank and efforts to address the longstanding Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
