India has climbed to the 75th spot in the Henley Passport Index, improving 10 positions from its 85th ranking in 2025, according to data from the International Air Transport Association. India’s best-ever performance on the index remains its 71st position achieved in 2006.

With the improved ranking, Indian passport holders now enjoy easier access to 56 destinations worldwide through visa-free entry, visa on arrival, or electronic travel authorisation mechanisms.

Visa on Arrival / Visa-Free Access

Indian travellers can visit countries such as Thailand, Maldives, Malaysia, Indonesia, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Nepal, Bhutan, and several Caribbean, African, and Pacific island nations without obtaining a visa in advance.

Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)

Countries offering ETA facilities to Indians include Senegal, Seychelles, and St. Kitts and Nevis.

E-Visa Access

Indian passport holders can also travel using e-visa systems to a wide range of destinations, including Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Morocco, Singapore, South Africa, Türkiye, and others across Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe.

The Henley Passport Index ranks passports based on the number of destinations their holders can access without obtaining a prior visa, serving as a widely cited benchmark of global travel mobility.
