Joe Biden’s cancer has spread further, son Hunter says

Former US president Joe Biden’s prostate cancer has metastasized further, spreading beyond his bones, according to his son Hunter Biden in a recent BBC interview.

Biden, 83, revealed in May 2025, four months after leaving office, that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had already spread to his bones.

He subsequently underwent treatment including radiation and hormone therapy. Last month, Biden said the treatment was going “really well” while announcing plans for an upcoming memoir.

However, in an interview with BBC Newsnight published late Friday, Hunter Biden said his father’s cancer had continued to spread despite treatment.

“The cancer has spread, is metastasized into his bones and further,” Hunter Biden said, adding that the disease was “very painful” and “very debilitating” for his father.

“He’s still out there. He’s still doing his thing,” Hunter said, adding that Biden remains deeply committed to the United States.

Hunter Biden became emotional while discussing his father’s condition, describing it as “really, really hard” and “really sad to watch.”

Biden faced persistent questions about his health and age during his presidency. At 81, he sought a second term in the 2024 presidential election but withdrew from the race following a poor debate performance against Donald Trump in June and mounting pressure from fellow Democrats.

Vice President Kamala Harris subsequently became the Democratic nominee but lost the November election to Trump.
