Khan Sir Named in FIR After Guards Open Fire Following Vandalism at Patna Coaching Centre
Patna Police have registered a case against educator Faisal Khan, popularly known as Khan Sir, after two of his security guards allegedly opened fire outside his coaching institute following a vandalism incident earlier this week.
The two guards were arrested after they allegedly fired shots into the air near the KGS coaching centre in Patna’s Musallahpur Hat area. They have been booked on charges including attempt to murder and violations of the Arms Act. Police have also tasked the District Investigation Unit (DIU) with locating Khan Sir, who officials said was not found at the institute on Friday.
According to investigators, the FIR was registered after the guards allegedly told police during questioning that they had opened fire on Khan Sir’s instructions. The guards reportedly claimed that he directed them to fire at a crowd gathered outside the institute after a confrontation in which one of the security personnel was allegedly assaulted.
Police said the case was registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act relating to unlawful use of firearms and illegal possession of weapons. Investigators alleged that the guards fired two rounds each after being assured by Khan Sir that he would deal with any consequences.
Responding to the allegations, Khan Sir said in a video statement that the guards had acted in self-defence. He claimed violence had broken out outside the institute and that the firing was intended to protect those inside until police arrived.
In an official statement, the office of the City Superintendent of Police (Central), Patna, said a group of individuals allegedly vandalised the KGS coaching centre and engaged in stone-pelting on the night of June 2. During the subsequent investigation, police said they obtained video footage showing two individuals firing weapons after the incident. The guards were identified, detained and their firearms seized for forensic examination.
Based on the investigation so far, police have named Khan Sir and two others in the FIR. Authorities have also urged students not to be misled by rumours surrounding the incident, stressing that law-and-order violations would be dealt with strictly.
The controversy triggered large gatherings of students outside the institute on June 3, prompting a significant security deployment in the area.
