Manjeet Kaur was 7 weeks pregnant when she died after burning attack: Chandigarh Police

Social media influencer Manjeet Kaur, 28, who was allegedly abducted from Chandigarh and later set on fire in Morinda, was nearly seven weeks pregnant when she died during treatment at PGIMER on August 26, police said.

Kaur, a divorcee, had a seven-year-old son who lives with her former husband, according to investigators. Her family has not yet joined the investigation as they are currently occupied with her last rites.

Meanwhile, Chandigarh Police are working to trace and arrest the two suspects named in the FIR — Shubhi and Pinda. The two were booked on charges of kidnapping and murder following a complaint by Kaur’s mother.

Influencer allegedly abducted, set on fire

According to police, the suspects allegedly forced Kaur into a car on July 3 and drove her from Chandigarh to Morinda. She was allegedly assaulted, tied to a mulberry tree and set on fire.

A friend who reached the spot reportedly used a blanket to put out the flames and rushed Kaur to a hospital in Morinda. She was subsequently shifted to a private hospital in Mohali before being admitted to PGIMER on July 9.

Kaur briefly regained consciousness on August 5 but later succumbed to her injuries on August 26, following weeks of treatment.

Police probe abduction, motive

Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding Kaur’s alleged abduction and the motive behind the attack, while also working to determine the precise roles of the two suspects.

Police are scanning CCTV footage along the route between Chandigarh and Morinda and questioning Kaur’s acquaintances to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the attack.
