Prateek Yadav, son of late Mulayam Singh Yadav and half-brother of Akhilesh Yadav, died in Lucknow on Wednesday morning at the age of 38.

Prateek, who was married to BJP leader Aparna Yadav, was rushed to Civil Hospital after his condition turned critical early in the morning.

Civil Hospital director Dr GP Gupta said doctors received information around 5 am that Prateek was unwell and immediately rushed to his residence.

“When the doctors reached there, his condition appeared critical. He was brought to the hospital, and despite all efforts by the medical team, he was declared dead at 5.55 am,” Gupta said.

He added that the exact cause of death would be determined after a postmortem examination.

Prateek’s sudden demise triggered shock and condolences across political and social circles in Uttar Pradesh, with leaders, business associates and supporters expressing grief.

Who was Prateek Yadav?

Prateek Yadav was the son of Mulayam Singh Yadav and his second wife Sadhna Gupta. Though part of one of India’s most prominent political families, he stayed away from active politics and focused largely on business and fitness ventures.

He studied at the University of Leeds and later became associated with the real estate and fitness sectors in Lucknow.

Prateek owned a gym named “Iron Core Fit” and was also involved in animal welfare through an organisation called “Jeev Ashray”, which worked for the rescue and care of stray dogs.

He married Aparna Bisht, now Aparna Yadav, in 2011. The couple has a daughter.

Divorce controversy

Earlier this year, Prateek publicly announced plans to seek divorce from Aparna Yadav through a series of Instagram posts, accusing her of damaging family relationships and being driven by fame and influence.

In the posts, he described Aparna as “selfish” and alleged that tensions in their marriage had affected his mental health and strained his ties with family members, including his parents and brother.
