Veteran actor Nana Patekar was cremated with full state honours at his farmhouse in Pune late on Thursday night. His son, Malhar Patekar, performed the last rites at around 11.30 pm in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, several dignitaries and thousands of grieving fans.

Following the funeral, Malhar spoke to reporters about his father’s legacy, saying that Nana Patekar’s work had made him immortal and that his vision of humanitarian service would continue through the Naam Foundation.

Malhar Patekar On Father Nana Patekar’s Legacy

Speaking outside the farmhouse after the last rites, Malhar said his father had consistently believed in bringing people together to improve the world.

“A person like Nana Saheb never truly leaves us. Through their work, they become immortal,” he said.

Recalling his father’s philosophy, Malhar added that Nana Patekar frequently emphasised the importance of collective efforts for humanity and social welfare.

He also highlighted the work being undertaken through the Naam Foundation, particularly in water conservation, along with large-scale initiatives in education and healthcare in Kashmir.

According to Malhar, his father had assigned specific responsibilities to people before his death, ensuring that the work he had initiated would continue.

Why Was Nana Patekar’s Funeral Held Late At Night?

Nana Patekar’s last rites were performed late Thursday night after his mortal remains were brought to the family farmhouse in Pune.

Explaining the delay, Malhar said the family had initially expected the body to arrive earlier, but the process took longer than anticipated.

“We were in Goa, and his mortal remains were to be brought to the farmhouse in the village. We expected it to arrive earlier, but it took us some time,” he told reporters.

He added that the family decided to complete the last rites on Thursday itself because the tragedy had occurred early that morning and considerable time had already passed.

Nana Patekar Dies After Cardiac Arrest In Goa

Nana Patekar died on Thursday morning after suffering a severe cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa.

According to reports, the actor contacted a friend in the early hours of the day after experiencing discomfort. He was subsequently taken to Manipal Hospital, where doctors attempted to revive him for approximately 45 minutes.

Dr Shekhar Salkar, chief of the oncology department at Manipal Hospital, confirmed the news to ANI.

His death marks the end of a celebrated career in Indian cinema, spanning several decades and encompassing critically acclaimed performances across Hindi and Marathi films.

Nana Patekar’s funeral in Pune drew thousands of mourners, including political leaders, dignitaries and fans who gathered to pay their final respects to the veteran actor.

His son’s tribute underscored the family’s commitment to continuing the humanitarian initiatives associated with the Naam Foundation, keeping alive the social vision that Nana Patekar championed during his lifetime.
