Pakistan summons US envoy in Islamabad over Kashmir remarks

Pakistan on Wednesday summoned the US charge d’affaires in Islamabad and lodged a “strong demarche” over remarks made by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor during his visit to Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the US envoy was summoned over Gor’s comments during his first visit to the Union Territory.

Gor, who visited Srinagar earlier on Wednesday, said Jammu and Kashmir “is an important part of India”. He also indicated that the United States would reconsider its travel advisories for the region.
