Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist a saffron flag on the 191-foot ‘shikhar’ of the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi Temple during a special Dhwajarohan ceremony on Tuesday. The flag — 10 feet tall and 22 feet long — features a radiant Sun, the sacred ‘Om’, and the Kovidara tree.

The event, described by many as a symbolic “second pran pratishtha”, will be followed by an address from the Prime Minister.

Key Highlights of PM Modi’s Ayodhya Visit

  • Traditional architecture:
The flag will be installed on a ‘shikhar’ built in the traditional North Indian Nagara style, while the 800-metre Parkota surrounding the temple draws from South Indian design traditions.

  • Morning temple visits:
Around 10 am, PM Modi will visit Saptmandir, which houses temples dedicated to Maharshi Vashishtha, Maharshi Vishwamitra, Maharshi Agastya, Maharshi Valmiki, Devi Ahilya, Nishadraj Guha and Mata Shabari. He will then visit the Sheshavtar Mandir.

  • Darshan and pooja:
At 11 am, the Prime Minister will visit Mata Annapurna Mandir, followed by darshan and pooja at Ram Darbar Garbh Grah and Ram Lalla Garbha Grah.

  • Flag hoisting ceremony:
By 12 noon, PM Modi will raise the saffron flag atop the temple’s shikhar and later address the gathering.

  • Rituals by 108 Acharyas:
The ceremony will be conducted by 108 Acharyas from Ayodhya, Kashi and South India, under the guidance of Kashi scholar Ganeshwar Shastri.

  • Completion of temple:
The installation of the triangular flag marks the formal completion of the Ram Mandir, following the consecration of Ram Lalla in January 2024.

  • Tight security in Ayodhya:
Security has been heightened ahead of the event, with 6,970 personnel, including ATS commandos, NSG snipers, cyber teams and technical units deployed across the city.

Large numbers of devotees thronged the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple on Monday for darshan ahead of the ceremony.
