Rajinikanth’s Coolie Sets Advance Booking Record, Tops ₹50 Crore Worldwide Four Days Before Release
Four days ahead of its August 14 release, Rajinikanth’s highly anticipated Coolie has already raked in over ₹50 crore in advance bookings worldwide — a record-breaking feat for the superstar.
Ticket sales in India opened Friday, following an earlier international rollout, and industry trackers expect the figure to at least double by release day as domestic demand surges.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie boasts a pan-India cast including Nagarjuna, Upendra, and Shruti Haasan, with a cameo by Aamir Khan. Overseas pre-sales alone have crossed $5 million (about ₹42 crore), while Indian advance bookings have reached ₹14 crore so far, led by the Tamil version. The film has already eclipsed the lifetime box office collections of several recent releases before even hitting screens.
In India, Coolie is poised to overtake the ₹18 crore advance booking record set by Rajinikanth’s Jailer and could challenge the all-time ₹46 crore pre-sales benchmark set by Leo. With momentum building, trade experts predict Coolie could deliver one of the biggest openings ever for an Indian film — and the largest in Rajinikanth’s career.
