Russian strikes hit Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, killing five in Ukraine, officials say

Russian attacks killed five people and injured 20 in Ukraine’s southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia early Tuesday, while strikes on Kyiv triggered fires in the capital, Ukrainian officials said.

Zaporizhzhia Regional Governor Ivan Fedorov said Russian forces used missiles and aerial bombs in the attack, posting images showing buildings and vehicles engulfed in flames.

Air raid alerts were issued in both Zaporizhzhia and Kyiv. In the Ukrainian capital, the city’s military administration said warehouses in a central district caught fire, with one person reported injured.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said emergency medical teams were dispatched to the affected area. The city’s air raid alert was lifted after about 40 minutes but was sounded again later in the night.

Reuters witnesses reported hearing explosions in Kyiv during the attack.
