Russian strikes kill three, including child, in Kyiv region: official

Russian strikes on the Kyiv region killed three people, including a child, and injured three others on Saturday, Ukrainian officials said, as explosions and fires were reported in and around the capital.

Kyiv regional administration chief Tymur Tkachenko said Russian attacks were recorded at three locations in the Boryspil district, southeast of Kyiv.

Falling debris damaged residential buildings and vehicles and sparked a fire at a non-residential property, Tkachenko said.

Several explosions were also heard across Kyiv after Ukraine’s air force warned of a possible ballistic missile attack from the north. The city’s military administration urged residents to take shelter after an air raid alert was issued over the reported use of ballistic missiles.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said fires broke out in two districts of the capital following the attack. Witnesses reported hearing powerful explosions that shook parts of the city.

Ukraine has long faced shortages of advanced air-defence systems capable of intercepting Russia’s ballistic missiles, leaving Kyiv and other cities vulnerable to such attacks.
