Sensex extends losses, down 630 pts, Nifty below 24,100; SMIDs outperforms

The Indian benchmark equity indices extended losses after a muted open as bank stocks weighed.

As of 10:00 AM, the Nifty50 was trading 0.42 per cent or 105.30 points down at 24,151.15, and the Sensex was trading 387.2 points or 0.49 per cent down at 77,818.96.

Max Healthcare Institute, Kotak Mahindra Bank, SBI Life Insurance, Tata Consumer Products, and Bharti Airtel were the top loser in the Nifty50 index.

Broader markets outperformed benchmark indices. The Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap were 0.34 per cent and 0.74 per cent higher, respectively.

Sector-wise, the Nifty Private Bank was the worst hit. The Nifty Financial Services and the Nifty Bank also underperformed. Meanwhile, the Nifty Media index rose the most.

Rajputana Stainless IPO will enter its final day of subscription. The issue was subscribed to 0.42 times on the second day. The tentative listing date is March 16.
