Sensex gains 100 pts, Nifty tops 24,100; Piramal Finance share price jumps 7%

The Nifty50 and the Sensex were trading flat as traders assessed the latest development in the US-Iran relationship.

The Nifty50 was trading 0.33 per cent or 77.50 points higher at 24,170.20, and the Sensex was trading 0.19 per cent or 142.28 points higher at 77,439.21.

Broader markets outperformed the benchmark indices. The Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap were trading 0.38 per cent and 0.89 per cent higher, respectively.

Sector-wise, the Nifty PSU Bank emerged as the worst-performer. The Nifty Bank and the Nifty Private Bank also weighed. Meanwhile, the Nifty Metal rose the most.

Brent crude was trading 1.24 per cent higher at $109.6 per barrel as the crucial waterway, the Strait of Hormuz, remained shut while the US examined Iran’s proposal to end the war, contingent on Washington ending the blockade.
