Prime Minister Narendra Modi has begun his official visit to France, where he is set to hold high-level meetings with world leaders, inaugurate the inaugural Bharat Innovates 2026 event, and participate in the G7 Summit before travelling to Slovakia for a historic state visit.

Modi arrived in Nice on Saturday and said his trip would feature a mix of bilateral and multilateral engagements aimed at strengthening India’s ties with key global partners.

Bilateral talks with Macron

A key engagement of the visit will be Modi’s meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Nice. The two leaders are expected to review the full spectrum of India-France ties, which were elevated to a Special Global Strategic Partnership earlier this year.

Bharat Innovates 2026 launch

Modi and Macron will jointly inaugurate Bharat Innovates 2026, a flagship event being held as part of the India-France Year of Innovation. The event will bring together Indian startups, innovators, venture capital firms, global investors and industry leaders, showcasing India’s growing strength in deep technology and innovation.

G7 Summit participation

The Prime Minister will attend the G7 Summit in Evian on June 16-17, where leaders are expected to discuss economic growth, international cooperation, artificial intelligence, global security and sustainable development. India is among the partner countries invited to the summit.

Possible meeting with Trump

One of the most closely watched engagements on the sidelines of the summit could be a meeting between Modi and US President Donald Trump. US officials have indicated that the two leaders are expected to meet, although New Delhi has not yet formally confirmed the engagement.

VivaTech Summit in Paris

Following the G7 Summit, Modi will travel to Paris to attend VivaTech 2026, Europe’s largest startup and technology conference, alongside Macron. The event is expected to focus on emerging technologies, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Historic Slovakia visit

Modi will also undertake a state visit to Slovakia from June 14-16 at the invitation of Prime Minister Robert Fico. The visit will be the first by an Indian prime minister since Slovakia’s independence in 1993. During the trip, Modi is scheduled to hold talks with Fico and meet President Peter Pellegrini to explore new avenues for cooperation in trade, investment, manufacturing and technology.
