UK PM Starmer says he will ‘shed no tears’ over Venezuela’s Maduro rule
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Saturday that he welcomed the end of President Nicolás Maduro’s rule in Venezuela and called for a smooth transition to a government that better reflects the will of the Venezuelan people.
“We regarded Maduro as an illegitimate president and shed no tears at the end of his regime,” Starmer said in a statement on the UK government’s website.
He added that the British government would consult with US counterparts in the coming days as it seeks a safe and peaceful transition to what he described as a legitimate government in Venezuela.
