US military forces struck a vessel in the eastern Pacific Ocean on Wednesday, killing three men the Pentagon alleged were involved in drug trafficking.
No US personnel were harmed in the operation, according to US Southern Command.
The strike is part of a series of recent actions as the Trump administration intensifies its crackdown on suspected cartel activity in international waters.
Since the campaign began in early September, at least 178 people have been killed in such strikes. The operations predate the January raid that led to the capture of former Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro.
US Southern Command described the latest action as a “lethal kinetic strike” targeting a vessel operated by a “Designated Terrorist Organization,” adding that it was traveling along known drug-trafficking routes in the eastern Pacific.
However, officials did not identify the organization, disclose the exact location of the strike, or provide evidence linking the three men to drug trafficking.
