Virat Kohli Becomes Second Batter To Reach 15,000 ODI Runs, Breaks Tendulkar’s Record

Virat Kohli added another landmark to his extraordinary ODI career on Sunday, becoming only the second batter in men’s cricket to cross 15,000 runs in the format.

The India star reached the milestone during the first ODI against West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram. Kohli entered the match needing 59 runs and went past the mark during India’s chase of 296.

Kohli reached 15,000 ODI runs in his 303rd innings, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the fastest batter to reach the milestone. Tendulkar had taken 377 innings to get to 15,000 runs, meaning Kohli achieved the feat 74 innings quicker.

At the time of the milestone, Kohli was unbeaten on 72 off 51 balls as India chased West Indies’ 295 for seven at the Greenfield International Stadium.

Kohli Joins Tendulkar In Exclusive Club

With 15,000 ODI runs, Kohli has joined Tendulkar as the only two men’s batters to reach the landmark.

Tendulkar remains the highest run-scorer in ODI history with 18,426 runs. Kohli, however, has reached the 15,000-run mark significantly faster, adding another record to his remarkable one-day career.

The 37-year-old began the match with 14,941 ODI runs. Since making his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in 2008, Kohli has established himself as one of the format’s most prolific batters, consistently reaching major milestones at record pace.

Kohli’s Remarkable Record Against West Indies

West Indies have been one of Kohli’s most productive opponents in ODI cricket. He came into the series with more than 2,200 runs against them, including nine centuries.

His latest innings has once again seen him play a key role in India’s chase, while adding another significant milestone to his record against the Caribbean side.

Thiruvananthapuram has also been a productive venue for Kohli, and his latest appearance has added another memorable chapter to his ODI career.

West Indies posted 295 for seven in their allotted 50 overs, with Justin Greaves providing the backbone of their innings.

Kuldeep Yadav was India’s standout bowler, claiming four wickets as the hosts restricted West Indies to a below-300 total.

The focus then shifted to India’s chase, with Kohli anchoring the innings and completing one of the biggest milestones of his international career.

With 15,000 ODI runs now to his name, Kohli has once again rewritten the record books by reaching the landmark faster than any batter before him.
