S. Jaishankar on Saturday said that the past decade has been defined by a series of unprecedented global disruptions, with the COVID-19, ongoing conflicts and climate change emerging as the most significant challenges shaping the world order.

Addressing an event in Raipur, Jaishankar said these crises have tested the resilience of nations and forced governments to rethink strategies on economic stability, supply chains and international cooperation.

“The last ten years have seen multiple shocks — from the COVID pandemic to conflicts in different regions and the growing impact of climate change. These have had a deep and lasting effect on global systems,” he said.

The External Affairs Minister noted that the pandemic exposed vulnerabilities in healthcare systems and disrupted economies worldwide, while geopolitical tensions have led to uncertainty in energy and food supplies. Climate change, he added, continues to pose long-term risks, particularly for developing nations.

Highlighting India’s response, Jaishankar said the country has adapted to these challenges through policy reforms, stronger diplomatic engagement and efforts to build resilient supply chains. He also pointed to India’s role in providing vaccines and humanitarian assistance during the pandemic as an example of its global responsibility.

On climate change, he emphasised the need for sustainable development and equitable responsibility, reiterating India’s commitment to balancing growth with environmental concerns.

Jaishankar underlined that in an increasingly uncertain world, countries must work together while also strengthening domestic capabilities. “Resilience, self-reliance and trusted partnerships will define how nations navigate the coming years,” he said.

His remarks come amid ongoing global instability, with nations grappling with economic pressures, geopolitical conflicts and the accelerating effects of climate change.
