“I am trapped, bro. Just don’t get trapped yourself.” Those were among the final words Twisha Sharma sent to her friend before the 31-year-old, who was two months pregnant, was found dead at her home in Bhopal under mysterious circumstances.

Twisha, a former Miss Pune from Noida who had married Bhopal-based lawyer Samarth Singh in December 2025, was found hanging at her marital home in the Katara Hills area on May 12. Her family has since accused her husband and in-laws of prolonged mental and physical abuse and alleged attempts to influence the investigation.

According to screenshots shared by the family, Twisha messaged her friend Minakshi on Instagram shortly before her death, saying she felt trapped and warning her against marriage. Minakshi replied expressing concern and support, but Twisha never called back.

On Sunday, Twisha’s family staged a protest outside the residence of Mohan Yadav in Bhopal, demanding a fresh post-mortem examination at AIIMS Delhi and refusing to perform her last rites until they learned the truth behind her death.

Speaking to reporters, Twisha’s father Navnidhi Sharma alleged serious lapses in the police investigation. He claimed the FIR was registered two days after his daughter’s death and said no arrests had yet been made. The family also questioned the credibility of the Special Investigation Team constituted by police and demanded an investigation under the supervision of the Supreme Court.

The family alleged that Twisha’s body bore injury marks on her hands and ears, raising suspicions of murder and destruction of evidence. They have also sought better preservation of the body, arguing that improper storage conditions could compromise a second post-mortem examination.

Navnidhi Sharma said the family waited for hours outside the chief minister’s residence seeking a direct meeting with him and threatened self-immolation if justice was denied. According to him, officials acknowledged shortcomings in the investigation but no concrete assurances were given.

Police said a Special Investigation Team had been formed to probe allegations of dowry harassment, assault and destruction of evidence against Samarth Singh and his mother, retired judge Giribala Singh.

Katara Hills police station in-charge Sunil Dubey said Samarth Singh was absconding and efforts were underway to arrest him. He also said police would challenge the anticipatory bail granted to Giribala Singh. The hearing on Samarth Singh’s anticipatory bail plea is scheduled for May 18.
