Alpha box office Day 7: Alia Bhatt’s spy thriller wraps first week under ₹50 crore
Yash Raj Films’ ambitious spy thriller Alpha has lost steam at the box office, ending its first week below the ₹50-crore mark despite a promising opening weekend.
Starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, the first female-led film in the YRF Spy Universe has witnessed an inconsistent run, with collections fluctuating sharply after its initial success.
Alpha Box Office Day 7
After collecting ₹34 crore net over its opening weekend, Alpha suffered a steep 70% drop on Monday, earning ₹3.85 crore. Although the film saw a brief recovery on Tuesday, collections slipped again on Wednesday and declined further on Thursday.
According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Alpha earned ₹2.60 crore net in India on its seventh day, taking its first-week domestic total to ₹47.55 crore net.
The film’s inability to cross the ₹50-crore mark within its first week marks a disappointing performance for a big-budget franchise title. While it initially outpaced the opening-week collections of Alia Bhatt’s Raazi and Gangubai Kathiawadi, it has since fallen well behind both films.
Tough road ahead
The release of Dhamaal 4 is expected to further dent Alpha‘s box office prospects by reducing its screen count and show timings.
Trade analysts estimate that the film needs to earn over ₹100 crore net in India and around ₹150 crore worldwide to recover its costs. With declining collections and increased competition, Alpha will require a significant turnaround in its second weekend to improve its commercial prospects.
About the film
Directed by Shiv Rawail and written by Uday Chopra, Alpha is part of the YRF Spy Universe. Besides Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, the film features Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor in key roles, with Hrithik Roshan making a special appearance as Kabir from the War franchise.
The film opened to largely negative reviews from critics, which many trade observers believe has contributed to its fading box office momentum.
