Australia lowers travel alerts for Israel and Gulf states after US-Iran ceasefire deal

Australia on Wednesday lowered its travel advisory level for Bahrain, Israel, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates following an interim agreement between the United States and Iran aimed at ending the conflict in the Middle East.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong said the government had downgraded its advice from “do not travel” to “reconsider your need to travel,” reflecting an improvement in the regional security outlook.

However, Wong cautioned that Australians should continue to postpone non-essential travel to the Gulf region, noting that the situation remains volatile and could worsen with little warning.

“While the security situation across the Middle East could deteriorate rapidly, current conditions in Bahrain, Israel, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE support moving to a lower travel advisory level,” she said.

The revised guidance follows signs of easing tensions after Washington and Tehran reached a temporary deal, though Australian authorities continue to monitor developments closely.
