ChatGPT, Claude and X’s Grok Face Outages, Users Report Issues on Downdetect

Several users across the world reported disruptions while accessing major generative AI platforms, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude and Elon Musk-owned X’s Grok, according to Downdetector.

As of around 8.20 pm, Downdetector recorded more than 2,800 reports of issues with ChatGPT, around 170 involving Claude and over 40 concerning Grok in India.

In the United States, the number of reported problems was significantly higher, with more than 35,000 reports for ChatGPT, over 1,400 for Claude and more than 1,200 for Grok around the same time.

OpenAI acknowledged the disruption, saying it was seeing “elevated errors across ChatGPT and Codex” and was investigating the issue affecting the services.

Amid the outage, ChatGPT posted a video on X showing stars moving into a formation, accompanied by the caption, “The stars are almost aligned.”

OpenAI had also shared a teaser for Astra shortly before the disruptions, describing it as a major advancement in cybersecurity capability that reaches the “Critical” threshold under its Preparedness Framework.

Anthropic’s Claude also acknowledged service issues, saying it had identified the cause of elevated errors affecting requests to several models and was working on a fix.

The company later said that only Opus 4.8 and Opus 5 were still affected, while its other models had returned to their baseline error rates.

Meanwhile, Grok confirmed that it was experiencing technical issues and said it was “working on restoring service as quickly as possible.”
