‘Questions were my weapon, now solutions are my responsibility’: Raghav Chadha on NEET silence

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Raghav Chadha on Thursday explained why he had remained silent on the NEET paper leak controversy, saying his role had changed after moving from the opposition to the treasury benches and that his focus was now on delivering solutions rather than making statements.

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Chadha said he had deliberately chosen not to comment publicly until concrete steps were taken to address the issue.

“When I sat in the opposition, questions were my weapon. Today I sit on the treasury benches, and solutions are my responsibility,” he said.

Chadha added that he could have appeared before the media every day for headlines but preferred to wait until Parliament was discussing measures to strengthen the examination system.

“My role is not to mark attendance in front of the camera; my focus is to fix the system,” he said, calling the introduction of the Public Examinations (Amendment) Bill, 2026, a “historic day” for reforms.

He said the proposed legislation would help curb paper leaks, make examinations more secure, protect merit, and crack down on the exam mafia.

“The exam will be fair. Merit will be respected. The mafia will be in jail. Students will win. Mafia will lose,” Chadha said.

The Rajya Sabha discussion took place a day after the Lok Sabha passed the Public Examinations (Amendment) Bill, 2026.

Expressing support for students, Chadha said the BJP-led government had listened to their concerns and acted on their key demands.

His remarks come after nationwide student protests over the NEET paper leak led to the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
