Samarth Singh, husband of former actor-model Twisha Sharma, has told investigators that she became distressed after discovering her pregnancy and later undergoing an abortion, as the CBI formally begins its probe into her death.

Twisha Sharma, 33, was found dead at her matrimonial home on May 12. While her in-laws claimed she died by suicide, her family has alleged murder, accusing her husband and his family of domestic violence, mental harassment and dowry-related abuse.

The CBI registered a fresh FIR after taking over the investigation from Bhopal Police, following directions from the Supreme Court for a free and independent probe.

During questioning, Samarth — who was arrested after remaining absconding for nearly 10 days and is now on police remand — claimed that his marriage with Twisha was initially stable but that tensions began after she learned of her pregnancy in April. He alleged she struggled to adjust to domestic life and frequently spoke about her earlier life in the entertainment industry.

He also referred to an alleged dispute involving separate travel plans to Bengaluru, Ajmer and Delhi, which he said contributed to strain in the relationship. Investigators also questioned him about the events leading up to May 12, when he claimed the family later found Twisha on the terrace and rushed her to hospital after attempting CPR.

Police sources said investigators found similarities between Samarth’s responses and earlier statements made by his mother, former district judge Giribala Singh, who is also named in the FIR.

The CBI is additionally examining the period during which Samarth allegedly remained in hiding and is trying to identify individuals who may have helped him evade authorities.

Twisha’s family continues to accuse Samarth and his mother of dowry harassment, abuse and destruction of evidence, allegations that remain under investigation. The Supreme Court has said the case raises serious concerns and stressed that the truth must emerge through a transparent inquiry.
