Sensex pares gains; Nifty slips below 24,300; Japan’s Nikkei 225 hits fresh high

The Nifty50 and the Sensex pared some gains as realty and auto stocks weighed. However, gains in global equities on the hopes for a truce between the US and Iran limited losses.

The Nifty50 was trading 0.18 per cent or 41.40 points higher at 24,272.05, and the Sensex was trading 213.03 points or 0.27 per cent higher at 78,324.27.

Eternal, Infosys, Hindalco Industries, and Bajaj Finance were the top gainers in the Nifty50 index.

The Nifty India Volatility Index fell 9.5 per cent to 16.83, indicating a decline in the near-term volatility.

In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap were trading 0.24 per cent and 0.41 per cent higher, respectively.

Among sectors, the Nifty Metal and Nifty Financial Services Ex Bank were the top gainers. Meanwhile, the Nifty Auto emerged as the worst-performing sector with the least gain.

Q4 results today

Alok Industries, Angel One, Amar Chand Jagdish Kumar (Exports), Crisil, HDFC Asset Management Company, HDFC Life Insurance Company, Waaree Renewable Technologies, VST Industries, and Wipro will release their quarterly performance reports on Thursday.
