Nearly 40 years after her haunting performance in the cult horror classic Veerana made her a household name, actress Jasmine Dhunna remains one of Bollywood’s most enduring mysteries. Now, filmmaker Deepak Ramsay has revealed that even the Ramsay family has lost touch with the elusive star and has no idea where she is today.

Jasmine shot to fame with her role as the seductive yet terrifying spirit in Veerana, one of the most iconic horror films produced by the Ramsay brothers. Despite becoming an overnight sensation, she never appeared in another film and disappeared from public life, fuelling decades of speculation about her fate.

Speaking to Hindi Rush, Deepak Ramsay recalled the extraordinary craze surrounding the actress after the film’s release.

“Jasmine was very young. Before Veerana, she had done one or two films, including one with Vinod Khanna, but she did not make a mark,” he said.

Everything changed after Veerana became a box-office success.

“People were crazy about her. She was extraordinarily beautiful and the character became iconic. Audiences were fascinated by her transformation from a beautiful woman into a terrifying witch,” Ramsay said.

According to him, Jasmine’s popularity soared so rapidly that producers regularly approached the Ramsay family seeking her contact details.

“She created an enigma. Filmmakers kept asking who she was and wanted to sign her for new projects,” he said.

However, despite the attention, Jasmine chose to walk away from the industry.

“Suddenly, knowingly or unknowingly, she decided she didn’t want to work anymore. She stopped taking calls and never did another film after that,” Ramsay revealed.

Asked about her current whereabouts, the filmmaker admitted that even those closest to her professional journey no longer know where she is.

“That is a very good question. Honestly, I don’t know,” he said.

Ramsay explained that Jasmine initially remained in contact with filmmakers Tulsi Ramsay and Shyam Ramsay after Veerana’s release. She reportedly told them she was not interested in pursuing further acting assignments and requested that her phone number not be shared with producers.

“We respected her wishes and never passed on her contact details. But slowly and steadily, she kind of disappeared,” he said.

The filmmaker also addressed long-running rumours that Jasmine may have withdrawn from public life after attracting unwanted attention from underworld-linked figures.

“I heard those rumours too. Whether they were real or not, I can’t say. But there were stories that some underworld-connected people were trying to get in touch with her,” Ramsay said.

While he stressed that he could not verify the claims, he suggested such attention may have contributed to her decision to distance herself from the spotlight.

“Perhaps because of that she wanted to cut herself off and retreat into her own shell,” he said.

Over the years, numerous theories have surfaced about Jasmine’s disappearance, including claims that she moved abroad or deliberately chose a private life. However, none of those stories have ever been independently confirmed, leaving Bollywood’s most famous vanished actress an enduring mystery.
