The proposed shutdown of Srinagar International Airport in October for runway maintenance and infrastructure upgrades has triggered concerns among tourism stakeholders, airlines and travellers, with industry representatives warning that the closure could disrupt the peak autumn tourist season in Kashmir.
According to officials, the airport is expected to undergo scheduled renovation and operational improvement works aimed at enhancing safety and handling capacity. However, the timing of the closure has sparked debate, as October is considered one of the busiest months for tourism in the Valley, attracting thousands of visitors eager to witness Kashmir’s famed autumn colours.
