UAE residents travelling to India have been advised to allow extra time at airports as enhanced security measures remain in place at several major airports until August 20.

With additional screening and higher passenger volumes expected, travellers are being urged to plan their journeys in advance and avoid arriving at the last minute.

Why travellers should reach airports early

India celebrated its 80th Independence Day on August 15, with security tightened at airports and major transport hubs across the country.

Passengers travelling to cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram may face additional security checks and longer queues. Travellers should allow extra time for check-in, baggage drop, security screening and boarding.

Airlines operating flights between the UAE and India have also advised passengers to reach airports well ahead of their scheduled departure times.

Airport-wise advisory

Delhi: Security checks have been increased, and passengers should allow additional time for airport procedures. Travellers should also factor in possible traffic congestion and road restrictions while heading to the airport.

Mumbai: Enhanced security measures are expected to continue until August 20. Passengers have been advised to arrive early as mandatory security checks may take longer than usual.

Bengaluru: The airport expects increased passenger volumes around the Independence Day period. Travellers should leave for the airport early and keep sufficient time for check-in and security procedures.

Kochi: Cochin International Airport has strengthened security, with enhanced checks on passengers, baggage and cargo continuing until August 20. Visitors are also barred from entering the domestic and international terminal areas during this period.

Thiruvananthapuram: Passengers should expect additional mandatory security checks and arrive early with their travel documents readily available.

Air Suvidha 2.0 declaration

UAE travellers should also check and complete any applicable Indian entry formalities before travelling. The Air Suvidha 2.0 online health declaration requirement applies to international passengers arriving in India, including Indian citizens, according to the advisory.

Travellers should complete the declaration before heading to the airport and keep the confirmation details accessible.
